Did you know that in a period over ten years crime here at Cerritos has actually gone down dramatically?
Let's take for example: aggravated assault it has gone down from 26 cases in the year 1997 to five cases in 2007. The Cerritos Campus Police Department also has more updated statistics that are avilable to thhe public.
That's something to take into consideration.
Campus police has a strong focus on the students safety. Cerritos Campus Police officers provide training sessions on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response to the campus community.
Daily patrol is also part of of an officers job here at Cerritos. They do vehicle, and bicycle patrol.
Personally I would like to see more "safety walks" performed on campus, which occur only at least once year.
Safety walks include seeing how they can improve lighting on campus, landscaping, and the emergency phones. Basic stuff that is needed to make the campus a safer environment for all.
One thing that many students don't know is that campus police provides an escort service. If a student feels the need to be accompanied by police officer, that option is widely available to them.
More advertisement would be greatly appreciated. Maybe having a campus safety fair at campus every semester to get the students acquainted with the programs they offer here at Cerritos.

Safety at Cerritos College
The dark, silent, and empty campus at night just evokes the thought of "Danger."
Students ( including myself) have night classes that end late at night, when the school isn't very populated as it is during the day.
Cerritos College students do have concerns when walking around the campus, late at night.
Just last week a woman was assaulted at Cerritos at the early time of 8 p.m. More information is provided by the college newspaper: The Talonmarks.
Previous assaults, auto thefts, break-ins have also occurred at campus. People might think that they are safe, but in reality one must keep open eyes at all time. There are statistics to prove the crime rate here at Cerritos Campus.
One would contact the campus police department at (562)924-3618 if you see any crime happening or if you feel in danger.
